The big race of the Grand Prix was rescheduled Sunday afternoon when lightning and heavy rain made conditions too dangerous for both drivers and spectators. The race took place Monday morning, and I had a great view from the 27th floor of the Bayfront Tower condominium building. There were dozens of residents and guests standing [...] Last night, we went downtown to see the Illuminated Night Parade. It didn’t seem as illuminated as usual, but that’s because of Daylight Saving Time. It just wasn’t all that dark out! But, still, it was fun to sit back at the end of a long day, enjoy the breeze as the sun prepared to [...] One of the sure signs of Spring in St. Petersburg is the sudden adornment of all of the city’s oak trees with long, delicate strands of oak pollen. I’m not personally affected by the pollen, so I can appreciate the beauty without reservation. Some others, though, the not-so-lucky ones, get red, watery eyes and sniffles [...] I’m sorry to tell you that this exhibit is already gone, but it’s still worth posting about, because it will be back again next year. I had never heard of Art In Bloom before, but when we went to the Museum last weekend to check it out, we learned that this was actually the tenth [...] In downtown St. Petersburg last weekend, there was activity everywhere! At Vinoy Park, the 2010 Cajun-Zydeco Crawfish Festival. A few blocks away, at the Museum of Fine Art, the tenth annual “Art in Bloom” exhibit, which I’ll post on later in the week. And all through the streets, consctruction equipment moving concrete barriers into place [...] I’ve been wanting to get down to the Saturday Morning Market for weeks, but each weekend, there has been something getting in my way. This past weekend, I finally made it down there, and what a treat it was! Beautiful blue skies and sunshine, temperatures right around the low seventies, live music, lots of fresh [...] Each year, the Florida Orchestra, working with local designers and developers, hosts a Designer Show House as a fundraiser for the orchestra. Typically, the venue is a house, but this year, it’s at the gorgeous new Ovation condominiums in downtown St. Petersburg. There are two condos featured, each decorated by several different local companies and [...] I was taking a walk the other day and became as entranced with this Great Blue Heron as he was with his prey. There was no concern at all for me or for the fact that I walked to within a few feet and might have posed a danger. All concentration was focused on whatever it [...] Those of you who live in or near St. Petersburg already know what a great stretch of waterfront parks we have. Those who are visiting or are not familiar with the city should take the time to head as far east as you can and check out our gorgeous parks. Many cities cede their waterfronts to private [...] |
