Those of you who live in or near St. Petersburg already know what a great stretch of waterfront parks we have. Those who are visiting or are not familiar with the city should take the time to head east to the waterfront and check out our beautiful waterfront. Many cities cede their waterfronts to private developers, [...] The picture says it all: We DO have seasons here! It takes a little longer for our leaves to turn color, but eventually, they do. This oak tree is showing some glorious color as it prepares to drop its leaves to make way for a full tree of fresh, new green ones… That’s a common enough phrase, isn’t it? You hear a lot of cities described as ‘a great place to live and work’. And, while I believe that it’s very true in St. Petersburg, I’m actually using the phrase here in more of a macro sense. I’m talking about specific buildings that have been designed as both [...] St. Petersburg is, compared to most places in the country, a pretty flat place. Even compared to areas not far outside of Tampa, which do have some rolling hills, we are flat. But, in reality, there are significant differences in the height above sea level in various areas of the city. Using the old ‘picture [...] People from other parts of the country often comment that St. Petersburg doesn’t have seasons, at least not the kind where trees change colors and leaves fall off. Although it’s true that our seasons are different, often delayed when compared to other regions, and not necessarily affecting all of our trees, we definitely do have [...] Not sure if this feathered friend is just looking for a safe place to rest, away from land-based distractions, or if he is hoping for a sail on Tampa Bay on this gorgeous day. This image was taken [...] Visitors to downtown St. Petersburg have an easy and inexpensive option when it comes to getting from place to place. There are two bus lines (but they’re designed to look like trolleys, and if you look at the sign on the top of the side of the car, they’re even called ‘St. Petersburg Trolley’.) One [...] The Baroque World of Fernando Botero is the current featured exhibition at the Museum of Fine Arts in downtown St. Petersburg. The exhbition runs from January 9th through April 4th, and it includes 100 paintings, sculptures, and drawings from Botero’s private collection. They’re usually taken from the Pier, because it’s right there and it gives one a nice view of the downtown area. But I was driving around Snell Isle recently and I came upon an empty lot with Tampa Bay frontage. I walked out to [...] This photograph was taken from the sidewalk along Coffee Pot Bayou, shooting towards the southern corner of Snell Isle. The gorgeous home that you see was built by Perry Snell in the 1920’s, his fifth of six St. Petersburg homes.
